How to Launch a Travel Booking App on Android and iPhone

Step by step: how a travel agency launches its own booking app on Android and iPhone, from app name and icon to Google Play, the App Store and getting installs.

Short answer: to launch a travel booking app, start from a booking website that already sells hotels, flights or packages online. Then prepare your app name and icon, build the Android app and offer it as a download on your site or publish it on Google Play, and publish the iPhone version on the App Store under your own Apple Developer account. Finally, ask returning customers to install it at the moments they are already engaged, such as right after a booking.

This guide is for travel agency owners, not developers. It covers what to prepare, what Google and Apple ask for, how long each step takes and the mistakes that delay most launches.

Step 1: Make sure the booking website works first

An app is a faster door into your booking system. It cannot fix a booking system that does not exist or does not work. Before you think about an app, your website should let customers search live prices, pay online and receive a voucher by email. If you are not there yet, start with our guide on how to create a travel agency website.

Step 2: Prepare your app name, icon and details

  • App name. Use your agency's trading name. Customers search the store for the name they already know.
  • Icon. A square image, clear at small sizes. A wide logo with small text becomes unreadable on a home screen, so use your symbol or your initials on your brand colour.
  • Short description. One line on what customers can book, for example "Umrah packages, Makkah and Madinah hotels and flights from Lahore".
  • Screenshots. Your home page, a search result and a package page, taken on a phone.
  • Privacy policy URL. Both stores require one. Your website's privacy policy page works.

Step 3: Launch on Android

Android gives you two routes, and you can use both:

  1. Direct download from your website. The app file (an APK) is offered on your own site. It is the fastest way to launch and needs no store account. Customers allow the install from their browser once.
  2. Google Play. You open a Google Play developer account for a one-time $25, upload the app, fill in the store listing and the data-safety form, and submit it for review. New personal developer accounts must run a closed test with testers before going public, so an organisation account in your company's name is usually the faster route for an agency.

On Travora Hub, the Android app is built for you from your live booking site and signed with a permanent key, so future versions update cleanly. You upload it once in the dashboard and your site serves it at /app.apk, with a download banner for Android visitors.

Step 4: Launch on iPhone and iPad

Apple only allows installs from the App Store, so there is no direct download. You will need:

  • An Apple Developer Program membership in your agency's name ($99 a year). Apple asks for a D-U-N-S number when you enrol as an organisation, which is free but can take a few days to obtain.
  • The app built and uploaded to App Store Connect.
  • A store listing with screenshots, a description, a support URL and privacy details.

Apple reviews every app before release, usually within a few days. Apple's guidelines expect branded apps made from a template to be submitted by the business they represent, which is why the app goes out under your account rather than your software provider's. On Travora Hub we build the iOS version on request and help you through the submission.

How long does each step take?

StepTypical timeWhat usually delays it
Name, icon, screenshots1 to 2 daysLogo that does not work as a square icon
Android direct downloadSame day once builtNothing, if the booking site is live
Google Play listing and reviewSeveral days to a few weeksTesting requirement on new personal accounts
Apple Developer enrolmentA few days to two weeksD-U-N-S number and company verification
App Store reviewUsually a few daysMissing privacy details or demo login

Step 5: Get your first installs

Most installs come from people who already know you, so ask them at the right moments:

  • In the booking confirmation email and on the voucher.
  • In your WhatsApp replies to returning customers.
  • On your website, with a download banner for phone visitors.
  • In your office, with a QR code at the counter.

Do not pay for app-install ads at the start. An install from a stranger rarely turns into a booking. An install from a past customer often does.

Mistakes that slow a launch down

  • Building an app with its own prices and packages, separate from the website. Every update then has to be made twice.
  • Publishing under the software provider's account. If you ever change provider, you lose the app and its reviews.
  • Leaving the store listing generic. "Travel booking app" tells nobody why to choose you. Say what you sell and where you are.

Frequently asked questions

Can I publish a travel app without a developer?

Yes, if your booking platform builds the app for you. You still create the store accounts yourself, because they belong to your business.

Do I need both Android and iPhone apps?

It depends on your customers. In Pakistan, much of the Gulf and South Asia, most customers use Android, so many agencies launch there first. In the UK, the US and among business travellers, iPhone use is higher, so an iOS app matters more.

Will the app need updating every time I change prices?

Not if it runs on your live booking site. Prices, packages and deals update instantly. A new version is only needed when the app itself changes, for example a new icon.
